Free Lesson Plans from the Center for Insect Science
A product of the University of Arizona Center for Insect Science Educational Outreach Program is a series of wonderful lesson plans called Using Live Insects in Elementary Classrooms for Early Lessons in Life. We have over 600 of those lesson plans in storage at CALSMart Publications Distribution Center, 4042 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson, and we would like to make them available at no cost to elementary teachers in your district. All they need to do is stop by CALSMart and pick up as many sets as needed. Our only request is that you contact Liz Haro at CALSMart in advance to let her know how many lesson plans you will be picking up. This offer is on a first-come, first-serve basis. 11th Annual General Biology Poster Session
You are cordially invited to attend the 11th Annual General Biology Poster Session: Thursday, July 28, 2005, 2-4 pm, Biological Sciences West, Room 301, University of Arizona Main Campus. Middle and High School Science teachers participating in the General Biology Program and the Teacher Internship in Plant Genomics will present their research at this poster session. Presenters include: Katrena Alber, Jose Araya, Adam Ashby, Steve Beall, Larry Chandler, Karin Doerr, Brad Donaldson, Nancy Gifford, Bill Golladay, Terri Hamstra, Jim Hayn, Traci Holstein, Chris Huntington, Shirley Kafton, Kevin Kehl, Vicki Milani, Alicia Nicholas, Terry Page, Vinca Pessarakli, Gerald Saunders, Wendy Slijk, Garrison Smith, James Stuart and Zoe Woodman. Rio Rico High School has an Opening in the Science Department
Rio Rico High School has an opening in the science department. This position covers 3 sections of Integrated Science to Juniors and Seniors and 2 sections of Applied Biology and Health. Rio Rico is an hour drive from the U of A. Several teachers carpool, so one can likely get involved if desired. The district will give up to 10 years experience credit for placement on the very competitive pay schedule. Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) maintains a free online lesson plan library for science educators organized by topic, including Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, and Scientific Inquiry. The McREL-created lesson plans include the purpose, related standards and benchmarks, student product, materials and resources, and a teacher's note for additional instructions. The library also links to external lesson plans from such groups as BSCS, PBS, American Chemical Society and NASA, among others.

Make Your School An INTEL¨ Model School
The Intel© Model School Program provides equipment for a school or district to enhance their student learning by using advanced technology. The program identifies schools that desire equipment or have a unique project to complete by using Intel products, and can show the improvement in the quality of the education experience for both the teacher and the student by using high-end technology. Enter the National Science Digital Library's Middle School Portal
The National Science Digital Library's (NSDL) Middle School Portal is a direct path to select online resources for instruction and professional development at ENC. The science, mathematics, or technology sections of the site provide resource lists organized by topic and take an in-depth look at how digital resources can help middle school educators teach specific concepts. ENC content specialists continue to add resources to the browse lists for the three subject areas.
