  • Capture the Imagination and Enthusiasm of Entire Families! Hold Your Own Hands-On Astronomy Event!
Two Family ASTRO workshops are being offered to train participants to be event leaders so they in turn can hold hands-on, astronomy-based events at their own schools, museums, Girl Scouts, parks, science centers, or local community groups. Family ASTRO events are incredibly well suited to Family Science Nights at schools, for instance.

    October 28, 2005, 4:30-9:00 pm:
The Cosmic Decoders workshop at NOAO will demonstrate how astronomers gather information from light by employing filters to select specific wavelengths of light to observe.Ê The workshop also investigates the decoding of alien messages and looks at a message that humans sent for possible aliens to decode. This kit has some amusing aspects that kids and adults get a kick out of.

    November 4, 2005, 4:30 to 9:00 pm (rescheduled):
The Race to the Planets workshop at NOAO. This is a great Family ASTRO kit that explores our solar system. Using toilet paper, playdough, and a variety of creative activities, families are introduced to our celestial neighborhood. If you know anyone who is interested in the planets and would like to be the leader for this event, please direct that person to our web site or to the files page of this site for an application.

To get an application for teachers, visit: NOAO Teacher Application. Otherwise, general applications can be found at NOAO General Application.
