Our Mission
The mission of the Science and Mathematics Education Center (SAMEC) is to
support, facilitate and promote collaboration among members of The University of Arizona, community colleges and local school districts, facilitating collective integration of UA science, mathematics, engineering and technology research into K-16 education.
Overview
Affiliated with the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory in the College of Science, SAMEC serves as a bridge between the University of Arizona community, K-12 schools (teachers and administrators), the general public.
state and national educational organizations and private business with a stake in science, mathematics, engineering and technology education.
SAMEC is recognized by the Arizona Department of Education as a center that provides Arizona Science Resources and Programs supporting "School Effectiveness Standards-Based Best Practices."
The SAMEC Advisory Board serves as an internal committee to review SAMEC's goals and objectives. SAMEC's administrative offices are physically located within the Sonett Building in The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, which also provides business operational infrastructure support.
